Happy New Year, I suppose...

It's that time of year, the end. Not only is it the beginning of a new year, a new decade.

Not like any of this makes a difference to anyone's life, I suppose unless you want it to. I have never been the type to set New Year goals, or plan on changing my life from January 1st but I must admit their is something calming about it being a whole new year...

Like every other year of my life, 2019 has been trying. Personally and for my family. We are going into a new year unsure of where it is going to take us. If you follow my blogs or follow 'Terri's Tales' on Facebook you will have seen that Terri has been unwell, suffering with her eye. As a family, we haven't spread the word about what is happening, most likely because we haven't/don't want to come to terms with it. But here is the crack..

As many of you will know Terri has been getting slower, more needy and less able over the past year or two, with Cockayne Syndrome taking its toll on her little body. Earlier this year, we found out that she had a detached retina - meaning her left eye had essentially become unattached from where it should be. We tried desperately to find alternative treatments for the pain, cleaning the eye and using drops frequently; but the discomfort has became too much and is making her sleep a lot of the time. It is holding her back. Her eye has shrank, and her gorgeous little blue iris can no longer be seen.

The only option we were left with was to have the eye removed. The decision was not an easy one and even now typing it, i don't feel like it is going to happen. But, it is, we are just awaiting that hospital letter through our letter box.

We have been told to expect the surgery date to be in January...

I have never liked new year, it is always bitter sweet. In one way, I find myself celebrating that I have had my little sister for a whole year, but then you never know whether the next will be our last.

So whilst I hope you all have a good new year, I am not quite ready to welcome 2020, but here we go...

Happy New Year, I suppose.

xx
